For fifteen years, five core movies and two spinoffs amidst a revolving roster of members, the X-Men series has proven itself as one of the most popular blockbuster franchises in the business, with over $3bn in box office receipts to prove it. While the one constant has been Hugh Jackman's now-iconic Wolverine, as a whole the merry band of mutants have proven themselves more than capable of overcoming every threat that comes their way.

While the lineup has changed from movie to movie, not to mention the entire timeline, the X-Men have utilized both their teamwork and mutant abilities in equal measure to defeat Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants, stop rogue government operative William Stryker, prevent the potential extinction of the entire mutant race, avoid the Cuban Missile Crisis and even reset the future thanks to some successful time-traveling.

Like any good team, the X-Men have suffered their fare share of fall-outs and infighting (not to mention a few deaths), but have always stood together in the end to kick some serious ass. However, next year's X-Men: Apocalypse will see Charles Xavier's proteges face their greatest threat yet as they come up against the formidable title villain.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
