15 Most Controversial Films Of The Decade (So Far)
6. Moebius
What's It About? Tightly focused on the lives of a husband, wife and their son, Moebius plays out completely without dialogue as the increasingly dysfunctional family deal with their sordid and debauched sexual urges. Director Kim Ki-Duk explores the interplay with an unflinching eye for the Oedipal, albeit one twisted by genital mutilation and incest. Why Was It Controversial? Kim Ki-Duk was forced to make extensive cuts to all the depictions of incest before the South Korean censors would even consider passing his film, and even then it was passed with a "restrictive rating" meaning that it could only be screened in specialty theatres (none of which actually exist in the country). Critics around the world were considerably more favourable than the censors, and Moebius was well received and comes recommended for those who can stomach transgressive yet challenging movies.
