15 Most Critically Adored Stephen King Adaptations

11. The Dead Zone (1983)

Pennywise It
Paramount Pictures

Rating: 90%

Again, rather than a horror, The Dead Zone is more like a supernatural detective movie, using Christopher Walken's newly found psychic abilities to thwart crimes (and a nuclear holocaust before they happen).

It's not a close adaptation, but despite initially seeing his script rejected, screenwriter Jeffrey Boam enjoyed the conspicuous accolade of being told by Stephen King that he had actually improved the story.
