15 Most Disturbing Horror Movies Ever
1. Murder Set-Pieces
Infamous
for being banned in Britain, Murder-Set-Pieces earned itself a rare NC-17
rating in the US and was roundly reviled by critics when it was released in
2004. The plot, what little of it there is, concerns an erotic photographer who
moonlight as a serial killer, and the film mostly re-treads territory better explored
in the likes of Alexandre Aja’s 2012 Maniac remake and the classic Bret Easton
Ellis adaptation American Psycho.
So what is it doing on this list?
Well, outside of a few familiar faces for horror fans, the only thing Murder Set-Pieces has to offer is its horrifically realistic titular killings, which the film dwells on long enough for them to act as the eponymous set pieces. The horrific sequences are among the most shocking ever filmed, and it’s no surprise that critics hated the movie given how explicit and intense these deeply uncomfortable scenes are.
