15 Most Epic Movie Moments Of 2018
1. The Moon Landing - First Man
As brilliant as Infinity War's marquee showdown was, it still wasn't quite as awe-inspiring as the ridiculously impressive Moon landing sequence from Damien Chazelle's First Man.
After almost two hours of build-up, Chazelle lets loose with a visually stunning depiction of Apollo 11's successful landing, as expertly shot, directed, acted and scored for maximum tension despite the outcome being known.
Justin Hurwitz's incredible musical piece "The Landing" is especially effective in ramping up the magnificence, while cutting edge visual effects ensure the scene is never less than a fully convincing depiction of one of humanity's greatest achievements.
And if that's not enough, the quietly astounding IMAX footage on the moon surface itself gives audiences a few moments to compose themselves before Chazelle delivers the emotional sledgehammer of Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling) leaving his dead daughter's bracelet on the lunar surface.
This is cinema at its most spine-tinglingly brilliant, bar none.
