15 Most Epic Movie Moments Of 2019

11. Friend Like Me - Aladdin

Captain Marvel
Disney

In 2019, Disney added to their growing list of live action remakes, possibly the riskiest of which was Aladdin. 27 years after the original, director Guy Ritchie's movie posed one particular problem. How do you bring the Genie to life without Robin Williams?

The enigmatic comedian memorably portrayed the character in 1992, truly making the character his own with one of the best performances in Disney's entire catalogue. No matter how well Will Smith did, there would always be comparisons and criticisms.

The former Fresh Prince approached the role with a view not to replicate Williams, as that would be impossible, but to pay homage to the legend while making this new varation truly his own. This character had the power to literally make or break the movie, and with 'Friend Like Me' being so iconic, the scene was crucial.

Without question, Smith knocked his performance out of the park. The Genie's famous song in particular was different enough from the original that it wasn't simply standing on Williams' shoulders, but still managed to pay homage to the incredible performer that came before him.
