9. Avengers: Infinity War

Kevin Feige was quite happy to shout from the rooftops that Avengers: Infinity War was going to be the biggest thing to ever happen to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while the final product definitely felt like the first half of a two-part story rather than a standalone narrative, the numbers don't lie. From a commercial standpoint, this thing was a bigger Titan than Thanos himself.

They may have already established themselves as the biggest game in town with a massive amount of audience goodwill following a decade of crowd-pleasing blockbusters but make no mistake; everyone was talking about Infinity War and nothing else when it hit theaters.

Not only the most financially successful comic book movie in history (stealing the crown from the first Avengers), Infinity War became just the fourth-ever blockbuster to earn $2bn at the box office and wiped out dozens of pre-existing box office records with one click of its fingers. In the wake of Black Panther and then this in the space of just three months, it became patently clear that nobody can ride the Hollywood hype train better than Marvel Studios.

Heavily marketed as the crossover to end all crossovers (until Avengers 4, at least), Infinity War brought together virtually all of the MCU's superheroes together in a galaxy-hopping, inter-dimensional epic that ended on a game-changing cliffhanger yet still found time to feauture a punch-up outside of a Scottish kebab shop. It may not have lived up to everybody's sky-high expectations, but it certainly wasn't too far off either.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
