15 Most Paused Movie Moments Of 2017
3. The BooK Of The Dead - The Mummy
The great irony of The Mummy's disastrous performance this year was the confidence with which it was supposed to set up a whole shared universe of Universal Monsters movies. That might happen still, but that definitely wasn't the film to launch it.
Even more ironically, the film was designed to be a whole new start for the Mummy property after Universal had already made three movies with Brendan Fraser, but the most notable thing about the film - and the most enjoyable, really - was an Easter Egg tying the two franchises together.
As Tom Cruise's Nick Morton discovers that Dr jekyll - the head of Prodigium played by Russell Crowe - is also the monstrous Mr Hyde, he's saved from the monster's grasp by Jennifer (Annabelle Wallis) who hits Hyde over the head with a book. If you pause, you'll see the book is the self-same Book of the Dead, which appeared first in the 1999 version of The Mummy.
