15 Most Paused Movie Moments Of 2018

Now that Easter Eggs are such a strong currency in movie making and film-makers are seemingly so determined to hide secrets in their movies knowing that it continues the conversation about them well after their initial cinema half-life, it's inevitable that fans take to freeze framing movies even more than they used to.

Back in the olden days, it was all about capturing proper looks at fleeting moments - and indeed the Most Paused movement was inspired by Sharon Stone's infamous leg cross in Basic Instinct - but the game has changed now. Now, pausing means searching for narrative clues for sequels, appreciating hidden hints and foreshadowing and turnign up Easter Eggs.

It's still about the voyeurism associated with some nude scenes, inevitably, but there's a whole new world out there of reasons to wear out your pause button, and 2018 was full of them...

15. Wait, Was That Groot?! - Avengers: Endgame

After what felt like YEARS of waiting and having to endure fanboy Twitter accounts claiming to be "in the know" about when it was going to drop and then backtracking as furiously as they could amidst claims of "changed plans," we got the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame and boy, was it worth the wait?

Naturally, the few minutes of footage ended up being picked apart like a carcass by famished fans looking for hints of what was to come and it seems a slightly ovver-zealous element of the audience claimed to have spotted Groot alive and well in the sequence with Tony Stark stranded in space...

Cue some furious pausing of the trailer to try and work out whether it was true. It turns out that it wasn't (it's just some machinery), but at least everyone got a little bit of an excited kick out of it.
