4. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Members Of The Senate

Another example of one sci-fi titan paying homage to another, The Phantom Menace made up for its excessively long Galactic Senate scenes by adding a small Easter egg in which there are three aliens closely remembling E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial engaged in political debate.

Naturally, as soon as it became common knowledge, everyone was rewatching the first of Lucas' prequel trilogy to see them, and they have since been confirmed as a race known as the Asogians.

The link between the two movies actually began with the release of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982, in which E.T. seemingly recognises a child in a Yoda mask as being from his home galaxy.

The cameo actually has its roots in a promise between long-time pals George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, it was still something of a surprise for Star Wars fans, and it's one that is often revisited upon return viewings, if only to affirm that it isn't just one of those strange urban legends that someone's older brother once told you in the playground.
