Ask anyone what they think the biggest sci-fi franchise is, and odds are, they'll give one of two answers: Star Trek or Star Wars.

Given that one happens a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away and the other happens a lot closer to home and a couple of centuries in the future, it didn't seem likely that we'd ever see the two meet.

Enter J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek reboot.

The story is classic Star Trek fare; and a little creative writing meant that it occurs in an alternate timeline, appeasing any fans who may have raised any number of continuity errors, while also paying homage to the Star Trek series and movies of old that are so well loved in the sci-fi community.

Except Trek isn't the only thing that it pays homage to.

It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, but naturally, it was spotted by a handful of eagle-eyed fans before being posted on the internet, and now everyone just has to catch a glimpse as R2D2, the iconic astrodroid from Star Wars, floats across the mass of debris in which the Enterprise is hiding.
