Release Date: July 21, 2017

The Pitch: An adaptation of the French sci-fi comic series, revolving around two government operatives, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne), who must stop a grand danger from wiping humanity out. Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, Lucy) directs.

Why It's Ridiculous: With its oddball cast (also including Rihanna, Clive Owen, John Goodman, Ethan Hawke and Rutger Hauer), effects-driven world-building and massive $180 million budget (the biggest of any French film in history), Valerian is already being called the Jupiter Ascending of 2017.

It looks absolutely insane, that's for sure.

Will It Be Any Good?: This really could go either way, and marketing has made it hard to really put a bead on the movie's quality. On paper, it sounds terrible, but the trailer showcased some undeniably impressive visuals.

Expect it to be stylistically amazing but narratively underwhelming, and probably 2017's biggest box office bomb regardless of its quality.
