15 Most Terrifying Movie Aliens Of All Time
1. Xenomorph (Alien)
Of course, the top spot belongs to a creature so fearsome that it literally personified the term 'Alien' for nearly half a century. Like seriously, was there ever any doubt?
Without question, the most iconic movie alien of all time, the Xenomorph has struck fear into the hearts and minds of millions of people since its debut in 1979's Alien and, to this day, it remains one of the most instantly recognisable entities to ever appear on a cinema screen. And given it's unique (and have we mentioned terrifying) appearance, it's hardly surprising.
Its elongated and slightly curved head should be its most intimidating attribute, but that merely frames a vicious looking jaw full of sharpened teeth that overflows with deadly acidic saliva and houses a smaller, inner-jaw it can push out to impale its opponents or... y'know... eat them. An incredibly tall creature, don't be fooled by that skeletal frame because it's both strong and fast, and has made short work of countless people - and even Predators - in its cinematic appearances, and that long spiked tale also allows it to attack its prey from a distance.
The original Alien was a harrowing space tale that utilised atmospheric threat in order to increase those feelings of fear in both Ripley and the audience watching, and that sums up the Xenomorph in a nutshell because even the presence of such a thing is completely and utterly terrifying.
It doesn't get any better (or scarier) than these monsters...
