15 Most WTF Movies Of 2018
7. Mandy
The second feature from Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow) is one of the most evocatively bizarre films of the year.
A seemingly typical exploitation film in which a man (Nicolas Cage) seeks revenge on a drug-addled biker cult, Mandy differentiates itself with its deliberate pacing, artful direction, hypnotic neon visuals and one of the year's best musical scores courtesy of the late, great Jóhann Jóhannsson.
But of course, the star of the show is Cage himself, who dials up his usual free-wheeling shtick to 11 and gives one of the most ferociously unrestrained performances of his entire career.
Whether he's hoofing cocaine off a shard of broken glass, screaming about his ripped shirt or engaging in a chainsaw fight, Cage hasn't been this compulsively watchable in years.
It's undeniable proof that all Cage needs is a director with a complimentary vision to channel his signature insanity in the right direction.
