15 Movie Poster Trends That Really Need To Die

4. Badass Heroes Have Their Back To Us

Excuse me! Look at me when you're promoting your film!

In all seriousness though, the repetitive trend that extends across action films is the lead hero standing centre-stage with their back to us. In front of the hero is the giant threat they face or the open world they plan to explore during the film.

In the early days when this gimmick was just starting to exist, it was a fun and neat attribute to have on a movie poster. But the more we've begun to notice it, the more we've begun to see a (once) comedic backlash slowly turn creepy.

As odd as it was to point out, 2018's Tomb Raider's poster drew a strange following when the internet thought it was necessary to point out the back muscles of Alicia Vikander in a way that was neither a compliment nor criticism. This kind of observation is open for disturbing bouts of criticism as it won't be long before the rear-ends of female action stars are debated on the forum pages.

One might suggest binning the idea all together and have our heroes face forward. Then again front-facing posters get the same kind of treatment so maybe there's no hope either way?

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
