15 Movies From This Decade (So Far) Destined To Become Classics

14. The Avengers

When it comes to classic movies, superhero movies and comic book adaptations rarely get a look in. Perhaps it's because there's an inherent snobbiness from the film criticism community - and a large portion of movie fans in general - who perceive the genre as "just" entertainment. But movies don't always have to be serious-minded or profound to be considered timeless, and some comic book adaptations will be remembered for their cultural relevance and the way in which they perfectly distill the essence of the superhero dynamic. With its eye-popping visuals, tightly choreographed action sequences and balance between a non-stop plot and moments of levity, The Avengers is a clear high point for the superhero movie. Joss Whedon might have moved on to pastures new after Avengers: Age Of Ultron, but his work here has secured his place in the pantheon of nerd-directors who understand what the fans expect and delivers it by the bucketload.
