15 Movies You Loved As A Kid (That Are Actually Terrible)

9. Hook

As much as we hate to admit it, this actually applies to quite a few of Robin Williams' biggest movies, but none more so than Steven Spielberg's surprise dud, Hook.

This is a quintessential blockbuster where visuals and marketability superseded the necessity for any real creative spark. It had a huge budget, elaborate visuals, Dustin Hoffman as the titular villain and Robin Williams in the role of Peter Pan. Why wouldn't it be good?

Many still stick their neck out to defend Hook as a good movie, but that only confirms the film's hugely effective nostalgic pull.

The animated performances by Hoffman and Williams made Hook an easy winner for kids, even if as written and directed it's really quite horrible.

From the exposition-laden script to the brutal 141-minute run-time and Spielberg's bizarrely workmanlike filmmaking approach, Hook is a most saccharine misfire for the director, albeit one with an easy appeal as a frothy light-show for kids.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
