What It's About: On the spaceship Starship Avalon, a malfunction awakens two of the ship's 5000+ inhabitants just 30 years into their 120-year journey. Mechanic Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) and writer Aurora Dunn (Jennifer Lawrence) must then team up to ensure the ship makes it safely to its destination in spite of potential mechanical failure.
Why It Can Save Hollywood: An original, big-budget sci-fi movie starring two of the hottest actors on the planet right now? How is this possible? The script for Passengers has been floating around Hollywood for almost a decade and even landed on the prestigious Black List at one point, and with the rock solid Morten Tyldum (Headhunters, The Imitation Game) directing, it's almost certain to invite a lot of awards chatter.
Footage shown off to investors so far has been received extremely positively, and let's face it, a screen romance between Pratt and Lawrence is pretty much the wet dream of every movie executive with a pulse. Hopefully it'll have the smarts to back all this up, too.
