15 Overhyped Movies You Wish You'd Not Watched

14. The Monuments Men

The Monuments Men is one of those disappointing films which had everything going for it: a consummate cast, an experienced director in the form of George Clooney and a fascinating based-on-real-life story. It sounded great and looked set to be a big contender come Oscar season when, in all honesty, the final film is closer to being Razzie-worthy.

An astoundingly boring watch, The Monuments Men represents a maddening example of a film wasting a ridiculous amount of potential. It tells its worthy story in the most ho-hum of ways, and the flat screenplay gives the amazing cast almost nothing to work with, ensuring that most of them make little impact.

The film clearly means well, but it just didn't give its true-life story its due. There is definitely room for a weighty and interesting movie about Allied soldiers recovering stolen art from the Nazis, and that is a film that we are still waiting for. The Monuments Men most definitely wasn't it, and it remains one of the biggest and most dispiriting Oscar-Bait fails of the 2010s.
