15 Popular Movies Which Were Notoriously Difficult To Produce
5. The Star Wars Trilogy (1977-1983)
The original Star Wars trilogy and the Lord of the Rings movies were prove to several accidents during production. But what’s the difference? The majority of the cast and crew on the Lord of the Rings enjoyed their experience and can mostly re-tell their stories of accidents and mishaps as a funny anecdote. The same can’t be said for George Lucas and the team on Star Wars.
During production of A New Hope, very few had faith in the picture, telling Lucas it would be the end of his career. Prime actors Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher all took issue with his stilted dialogue, often penalising him on it until they got their own way.
Whilst filming in the exotic location of Tunisia, the area experienced bizarre weather conditions, including a rare rainstorm and a fierce sandstorm which destroyed several of the Tatooine sets. The special effects department was chaotic as the staff attempted new effects which had never been tried before.
Even after a successful first movie, the problems didn’t stop. The Empire Strikes Back also faced tricky weather conditions with a heavy snow blizzard. The actual snowy setting was ideal for the Hoth planet but was awful for the team who could barely act or work in such harsh environments. The actors who played the ewoks in the Return of the Jedi also had a miserable time because their costumes were unbearably hot.
Epic action movies don't come easy.
