15 Potentially Awesome Films Undermined By Their Terrible Endings
14. Spectre
Spectre is a good action film at first, but the second half was a total mess.
The action sequences get smaller and smaller, Bond Girl Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) becomes weaker, the London-set finale is too small-scale to work and Blofeld is completely mishandled.
The twist that the man calling himself Franz Oberhauser was actually Blofeld was so obvious it was actually painful, while Blofeld hating Bond just because Bond is his former stepbrother and he felt his father showed favouritism towards Bond was an embarrassingly bad motivation if there ever was one. Also, what the hell was up with Christoph Waltz only being in it for 25 minutes?
Speaking of Blofeld, this final act has a series of terrible plot twists. First, Oberhauser is Blofeld... then it turns out he's responsible for the events of Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall, which makes no sense... then, government official Max Denbigh (Andrew Scott) is a villain, which is something else we all saw coming... and finally, Bond randomly spares Blofeld and retires to live with Madeleine Swann for no clear reason.
Hopefully the upcoming No Time to Die, once it finally arrives, will give Daniel Craig's Bond the great send-off he deserves.
