3. Tom Hardy Gives An Oscar-Worthy Performance - Legend

The Prediction: It's Tom Hardy playing the dual role of the legendary Kray twins, as written and directed by Oscar-winning writer Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential): how is Hardy not going to be in Oscar contention? This one seems like a slam dunk. What Actually Happened: Hardy sure as hell gave a solid performance, but he was constrained by a surprisingly by-the-numbers script which just felt like a generic gangster flick...with the added gimmick of Hardy playing two roles. If the script were better then he would absolutely be in Oscar contention right now for his savage work, but the rather basic and simplistic writing holds a low ceiling on what he's able to do. That's without even considering how confused Oscar voters would be about how to vote for Hardy's dual performance.
