15 Reasons Tim Burton’s Batman Is Better Than Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight

9. Theme Tune

In the same way John Williams theme tune for Superman will forever be linked to that superhero universe, Danny Elfman's theme tune for the 1989 film is the definitive soundtrack for the Batman. As soon as you hear the music, you envision Batman and it perfectly sets the mood and tone of Gotham. Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard had a hard job to follow Elfman and establish a new musical theme, especially as Elfman's score had been used for all things Batman for 16 years up to the point Batman Begins was released. Zimmer and Howard use two rising notes as Batman's signature, when you here them, you know Batman is about to make an appearance and i admit that you do get a sense of anticipation. However, it is nowhere near as rousing as Elfman's theme and considering the rest of their soundtrack is the same bland orchestral music that has become the norm in Hollywood, it is not a soundtrack that you would choose to listen to. Side by side, Elfman's theme is still superior and sounds far more epic as you will see when you play the videos below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJM3ghz8Jis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6frI0Xjufg
