15 Recent Horrors You Should Avoid This Halloween

7. I, Frankenstein

The Thing 2011
Lionsgate

Of the recent batch of Frankenstein movies (also including Victor Frankenstein, and this year's Frankenstein), by far and away the worst is 2014's I, Frankenstein. This sort-of-sequel to Mary Shelley's original novel sees Frankenstein's Monster - Adam - turn superhero, caught in a battle between Good (a race of relatively benevolent gargoyles) and Evil (actual demons). Deeply brainless CGI antics ensue.

Aaron Eckhart is the hunky, hoodie-wearing Adam, lost in a movie which owes as much to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as it does Van Helsing. But at least those movies had their moments of entertainment - this one is devastatingly dull, and an ugly mess.

This Halloween, go for Bernard Rose's Frankenstein instead - a modern update of the myth that keeps both its heart and soul.
