15 Recent Performances That Were Criminally Underrated
9. Aubrey Plaza In Ingrid Goes West
Aubrey Plaza is a hugely popular star after her hilarious performance as April on Parks and Recreation for many years, but in Ingrid Goes West the usual comedy star shows a shocking amount of depth. While there are certainly comedic elements to both the film and her performance, she delivers both devastatingly depressing moments and uncomfortably threatening moments, showcasing the character's unstable mental health perfectly.
The character of Ingrid is terrifying in many ways, but she's also a deeply sympathetic figure. Plaza is so naturally charismatic that you'll find yourself rooting for her even as she does horrible things. If another actress was in the role, you might not sympathize with her as much, and then the whole movie would fall apart.
Characters you can't help but loving are some of the hardest to pull off, yet Plaza manages to make it look easy. She has an immense capability for dramatic roles, and we can only hope she gets the opportunity to prove it more times in the future.
