15 Stunning Facts About 2016’s Biggest Movies
2. The Curious Origin Of Mrs. Slimer - Ghostbusters
It's a relatively well-known fact that Ghostbusters' loveable, gluttonous green ghost known as Slimer was an affectionate nod to comic legend John Belushi, who died the year before the film started shooting. Slimer closely resembles Belushi's uncouth slob Bluto from the comedy classic Animal House.
The 2016 reboot, however, introduces a female Slimer who rides shotgun when he hijacks the Ecto-1, briefly glimpsed as wearing lipstick, blonde hair and and having a bow in her hair.
This isn't some purely throwaway attempt to give Slimer a lady-friend, though, for Mrs. Slimer was in fact deliberately intended to resemble Bluto's eventual wife Mandy Pepperidge, a cheerleader characterised by the very same appearance.
