When Jamie Lee Curtis was being courted to reprise the role of Laurie Strode in the new Halloween sequel, an unexpected figure ultimately convinced her to take the part.

Jake Gyllenhaal, a family friend who Curtis calls her "unofficial godson", reportedly tracked her down while she was vacationing in the mountains and implored her to work with director David Gordon Green.

Gyllenhaal worked with Green prior on the Boston Marathon bombing drama Stronger and called it the greatest experience of his career, prompting Curtis to heed his advice.

The results speak for themselves: Halloween scored the series' strongest reviews since the 40-year-old original, and it was largely thanks to the presence of Curtis.
