15 Stupid Mistakes That Somehow Made It Into 2017 Movies
4. That's Not How FTP Sites Work - The Hitman's Bodyguard
Granted, in a movie where half the time it looks like the cinematographer has smeared butter over the camera lens, it shouldn't be terribly surprising that it doesn't exactly boast the most technically minded of screenplays.
Nevertheless, when Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) finally makes it to The Hague to testify against Belarusian dictator Vladislav Dukhovich (Gary Oldman), he instructs a court clerk to "go to FTP site Raven 257."
On its own, such an instruction doesn't really give the clerk much to go on: Raven 257 could be part of an FTP address numerous ways, and was clearly just written into the script because it sounded snappy and cool, rather than because it made any technical sense at all.
Would it have killed the screenwriter to just have Kincaid type the address in himself, or much more likely, have him submit the address into evidence earlier on, only requiring him to enter the password when he arrives at The Hague? If you're even remotely tech-savvy, this was a bit of a groaner.
