Everything about this version of Batman's nemesis is perfect; from script writer Johnathan Nolan’s , punky treatment of the character, director Christopher Nolan jettisoning any kind of origin tale and simply deploying him as Gotham's terrorist numero uno all the way to, of course, Ledger's dark and involved performance. All of these grim but great elements amount to something that will continue to be celebrated for years to come.
