While the 90s weren't kind to Mickey Rourke (Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, anyone?) The noughties saw a resurgence for this fading star, with his re-entry into Hollywood very much set in motion via his role in Robert Rodriguez's Sin City.

It's hard to imagine anyone other than Rourke playing Marv, embodying comic creator Frank Miller's notion of this burly beast being 'Conan in a trench coat', Rourke stomps through key storyline 'The Hard Goodbye' by simply being unrelenting and brutal in the way he goes about busines. It was never going to end well for this hunk of meat with a heart, which makes his brief encounter all the more memorable. A thumping comeback.
