15 Things Horror Remakes Did Better Than The Original

1. It - Literally Everything

Nightmare On Elm Street Remake
Warner Bros. Pictures

There's no use beating around the bush: 2017's It remake annihilates the original 1990 TV miniseries on every conceivable level.

It's got better acting, better writing, better directing, better pacing, better editing, it's more faithful to the terrifying book, it doesn't shy away from the gore...there just isn't any comparison.

2017's It is a mostly strong studio horror film while the TV film is ageing atrociously and is just a really wooden, tedious bit of television that might be scary for kids, but for adults the fear factor will be practically non-existent.

It's even arguable that the remake delivered a better Pennywise the Clown, for as great as Tim Curry's performance was he was stuck within a fairly weak production. Bill Skarsgard's performance as Pennywise was absolutely terrifying and he totally did this iconic character justice.

It (2017) isn't a masterpiece thanks to the lack of scares and dodgy CGI but it is an impressive, suspenseful and beautifully-acted four star film and there are few remakes in history that trumped the original film as much as this one did.
