There is perhaps no better film to watch during perpetual fall than When Harry Met Sally. If not for reminding us all of the simple pleasures that come with the later half of the year (dinner dates, game nights, Christmas, New Years etc.), it’s set in beautiful New York City for the lovely romance between Harry and Sally.

Over thirty years on, When Harry Met Sally is still one of the greatest romantic comedy movies of all time. It’s head and shoulders above other films of the same bracket because it’s genuinely smart, well-acted and always heart-warming.

Had the project not featured the insightful direction of Rob Reiner, the potent writing of Nora Ephron or the effortless chemistry between Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, it simply wouldn’t have been such a huge success.

A rom-com as intricate as When Harry Met Sally was quite a challenge to get just perfect. Allegedly, screenwriter Nora Ephron spent five years writing the script, whilst casting the film’s roles was no easy task either and many scenes were extensively rehearsed. Let’s find out more about what happened behind the scenes on cinema’s greatest rom-com.

When Harry Met Sally has many celebrity fans to its name because it's such a classic. But amongst them, one surprising fan is the late great Princess Diana.

She attended the film’s 1989 royal premier in London, where she met the film’s two leads and sat next to Billy Crystal during the screening. According to Crystal, she loved the film and laughed hard at the infamous orgasm scene (more on that later), before whispering to him “so naughty”.

In fact, Princess Di adored the movie so much, she arranged to have a private screening of it for her friends at Buckingham Palace.

There’s no word on what Queen Elizabeth II thinks of When Harry Met Sally, and maybe that's for the best.
