15 Most Underrated 1980's Movies You Must See

12. Three O'Clock High (1987)

The 1980's was a great decade for High School movies. The films of John Hughes, in particular, continue to be celebrated today. The Breakfast Club (1985) Pretty In Pink (1986), Sixteen Candles (1984) and Ferris Beuller's Day Off (1986) are recognised as some of the best examples of the sub-genre. The curiously dark comedy Three O'Clock High, however, is not quite so universally acclaimed. In fact, many people who celebrate the films of Hughes haven't even heard of it. It has faded into obscurity since under-performing at the box-office all those years ago. Taking a cue from the classic western High Noon (1952), Three O'Clock High follows a high school student as he tries to avoid a showdown with a bully who he has accidentally offended. It is shot in a way like no other high school film and uses unusual zooms, pans, slow-motion and frequent close-ups to really add to the sense of paranoia and fear running throughout the film. This incredibly unique film is a must for fans of high school movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlQtW1CGeys
