9. Star-Lord To The Rescue

After a blindingly high-impact battle inside Knowhere - including the full power of the Infinity Gem being unleashed in the Collector's lair, a seemingly fatal brawl between Drax and Ronan, and a gripping space-pod vs. necrocraft chase - we come to one of the more quietly poignant scenes of the film. Things have fallen apart quite spectacularly for the good guys. Drax has been left for dead, the Orb has been lost and Gamora is drifting lifelessly in space. Star-Lord's selfless decision to put himself in death's way to save her is captured beautifully, stirring music enveloping him as he holds Gamora close, frost creeping across their skin. We obviously know that there will be a rescue of sorts, but we allow ourselves to be swept up by the moment all the same.
