The Scene: As Brand (Anne Hathaway) argues with the rest of the Endurance's crew about which planet to visit next, she gives a lengthy explanation about why love shouldn't be separated entirely from logic: "Maybe it means something more - something we can't yet understand. Maybe it's some evidence, some artifact of a higher dimension that we can't consciously perceive. I'm drawn across the universe to someone I haven't seen in a decade who I know is probably dead. Love is the one thing that we're capable of perceiving that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that, even if we can't understand it. All right Cooper. Yes, the tiniest possibility of seeing Wolf again excites me. That doesn't mean I'm wrong." Why It Sucked: While the scene itself does entertain the idea that Brand is totally wrong (McConaughey's Cooper replies to her, "Honestly, Amelia, it might."), this flowery, prosaic monologue is probably the most cringe-inducing scene from any movie Christopher Nolan has ever made. Even though Brand is in an extreme situation and clearly under significant emotional pressure, it's still difficult to believe that a scientist could allow their judgment to become so severely clouded. Considering that it's made clear that the crew were selected for their lack of major emotional attachments, it's laughable that both Brand and Cooper have exactly that.
