As anyone who's had the pleasure of exploring Japanese horror cinema knows all too well, Japan produces many unconventional and subversive horror films. Even so, few come close to his low-budget masterpiece of body horror, which follows a salaryman who is slowly transforming into a human-metal hybrid.

Running at only 67 minutes, Tetsuo: The Iron Man is a short but potent scream of pure horror, a relentless onslaught of nightmarish imagery. The fact that it was largely accomplished with practical effects makes it even more hard-hitting, as the entire thing feels painfully real.

It is a hypnotically crazy piece of cinema. As disturbing as the (often sexually violent) imagery is, it's damn-near impossible to look away from what truly is a remarkable, nightmarish piece of cinematic surrealism. It might perhaps be a little too overwhelming for multiple viewings but regardless, horror fans who don't put this on at least once are doing themselves a disservice.
