16. Halle Berry - X-Men/Catwoman

Watching the X-Men films, it's hard to imagine that Halle Berry once won an Oscar: her performances are as uneven as her accent and she lacks the magisterial presence that the character deserved to see retained from the comics. That she was pushed into a more key role for the third X-Men film - at the cost of Marsden's Cyclops, probably - was one of that film's weakest decisions, and her continued association with the franchise always felt like a missed opportunity to cast someone who would have been able to do something better with the material. Despite the fan reaction to her performances, Berry's profile was still in the ascendancy, thanks to Monster's Ball mostly, and she was deemed the best option to step in to Catwoman's shoes in Warner Bros' new take on the character. Somewhat inevitably, without the rest of the X-Men cast, Berry floundered and failed and the film tanked.
