Critical Consensus: No Escape's talented cast and taut B-movie thrills are unfortunately offset by its one-dimensional characters and uncomfortably retrograde worldview.

A couple of cringe-worthy slow-motion scenes aside, No Escape is a very effective thriller indeed. It's brutal, consistently tense and the levels of stress it provokes frequently reach unbearable highs. Surely that's the sign of a well-made genre film?

Yes, the plot is thin and so are the characters, but that's very often the case with this type of movie, since it is focused on tense thrills. If that's what you're looking for, you've come to the right place. It's bizarre that so many critics seemed to be quite so against it.

As for the accusations of racism No Escape is not, for the most part, xenophobic and this was something that was seriously blown out of proportion by many reviewers.
