16 Pirates Of The Caribbean Easter Eggs You Probably Missed

13. The Hidden Mickeys

Pirates Of The Caribbean Easter Eggs
Disney

Being Disney, the entire franchise is littered with hidden Mickey Mouse heads. In the first film, when the Black Pearl attacks Port Royal (itself a reference to Disneyland's Port Royal Curios & Curiosities that stands opposite the entrance to the POTC ride), smoke from one of the cannons form the iconic shape.

In the first sequel, the locks on the eponymous Dead Man's Chest are also set out like Mickey's head - the same lock design later used in On Stranger Tides on Blackbeard's cabinet in his cabin.

And in Dead Man's Chest, one of the alternate Jack Sparrows in Davy Jones' locker has a Mickey tattoo on his shoulder. Even more notably in the same film, Sao Feng's navigational charts have a cheeky Mickey Mouse monster included, as added by conceptual consultant James Ward Byrkit.

There's also a more obscure Disney reference in Dead Man's Chest: when Elizabeth writes the word "Tortuga" on the deck of the Edinburgh Trader in oil and sets it on fire, it shows up in the trademark Disney font.
