In the film, a couple move into a bad apartment in a bad neighborhood in New York. The apartment contains a refrigerator, which is the only thing they like in the place. However, they slowly discover that the refrigerator is a monster which kills people quite gruesomely.

The Refrigerator is mostly horror, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. It knows what it is. Annoyingly, there's no shortage of people on the internet who don't get the joke - who say things like "This film is unintentionally hilarious with its badness", as if the film about a demonic refrigerator was aiming to be taken seriously. It's meant to be goofy. For goodness sake, the film was released with the tagline: "No survivors. Only leftovers."
