17 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played The Avengers

6. David Duchovny Was Almost The Hulk

The former X-Files lead, who was voted one of the most beautiful people in the world not so long ago, has something in common with Jeff Goldblum - who he does a nailed-on impression of, incidentally - in that he was up for the role of Bruce Banner and the Hulk.

But unlike Goldblum, Duchovny was up for the role in a movie that would never have made it to the cinema, as he was linked with the planned direct to DVD sequel to Ang Lee's 2003 effort, which Eric Bana bailed on when it was cast off to the home release market.

Duchovny was close to signing before the project was pulled completely and Edward Norton did his level best to make the character work with the follow-up sort-of-reboot. Duchovny had already tested for the original film, but missed out to Eric Bana, so goes down as the only actor on this list to be turned down for the same role twice.
