17 Awesome Movie Concepts That Were Totally Botched

6. Resident Evil

The Pitch: An adaptation of the classic survival horror video game franchise. What could possibly go wrong?

What Happened?: The source material was adapted in the loosest means possible, where aside from a few elements of the series' iconography, Resident Evil was basically a random sci-fi thriller with a name property slapped all over it.

Milla Jovovich does fine work and there are some neat B-movie moments, but it's just not really a Resident Evil movie, is it? George A. Romero originally wrote a far more faithful adaptation of the game, but Screen Gems ultimately opted for Paul W.S. Anderson's script instead, which of course led to a franchise of increasingly absurd and brainless - but extremely successful - sequels.

In better hands, this could've been the first good, faithful video game movie, but it sadly wasn't to be.
