6. The Skeksis - The Dark Crystal

The Skeksis are an entire raceof evil reptilian dictators; according to their concept designer, "part reptile, part predatory bird, and part dragon," which apparently results in them looking something like a cross between a genetically-modified bald eagle and the dinosaur that kills Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park. In essence, the same lesson applies: steer clear, and definitely do not antagonise. The dark half of a previous species called urSkek, while the other half is all sweetness and light, the Skeksis are materialistic thugs. Sharing similarities with other entries on the list, the Skesis don the finest robes, supplemented with fancy brooches, not simply to keep anyone they encounter from fainting at the sight of their hunched backs and gnarled faces, but more importantly to keep their constantly-decomposing bodies from falling apart. Their sole motivation throughout the film is to utilise any means necessary to stop that process. One particularly terrifying technique for rejuvenation is to drain the life from other species via refracted light from the dark crystal. Alright, so that€™s standard villain fare, but instead of doing the decent thing with all those near-death corpses and using them as mulch, they keep them hanging on to the threads of existence (with their minds totally blitzed) - and use the poor souls as slaves.
