17 Movies That Critics And Fans Just Didn't Agree On

4. The Butterfly Effect

The Butterfly Effect Ashton Kutcher
New Line Cinema

RottenTomatoes Score: 4.8

IMDB Score: 7.7

There's definitely a good movie hidden somewhere within this Ashton Kutcher-starring time travel thriller, and if you're happy to switch your brain off, it's passably entertaining.

However, if you subject the movie's time travel machinations to even the slightest sliver of scrutiny - as critics certainly did - then it quickly crumbles apart.

It's easy to see how the movie would play well with younger audiences less aware of the plot holes and less familiar with time travel films, likely explaining how a staggering 32.4% of its votes were scored 8/10.

Further muddying the waters is the fact that there are numerous versions of the movie out in the wild with far more interesting endings than the rather facile theatrical climax which critics saw.
