It is pretty unbelievable to think that it has been a whole 17 years since Austin Powers was first released in movie theaters. Starting out as a cult success, Austin Powers eventually became a massively popular franchise grossing $676,356,278 worldwide. Sadly the run ended with the ill-received Austin Powers in Goldmember, in 2002. A fourth film has been rumored for a long time now with both the director of the trilogy Jay Roach and star Mike Myers stating their intent to revive the franchise but so far it's been little more than talk. Instead of sitting around complaining about the lack of another sequel we should instead enjoy the genius of the trilogy we have. The Austin Powers films provided a mixture of parody, surreal comedy, wit and a fair share of toilet humour that had audiences all around the world in stitches and arguably made Mike Myers in to the worldwide star he now is.
