17 Things You Didn't Know About Austin Powers

15. Another Canadian Cast As Dr. Evil

jim carrey dr evil As unbelievable as it may seem Mike Myers was not originally going to play Dr. Evil. Myers wrote the role with fellow Canadian comedian Jim Carrey in mind. Myers went after Carrey to play the soon to be iconic role and Carrey told Myers he was attracted to the role. Unfortunately for Carrey he had already committed to the film Liar Liar and some overlap in the film's production time led to scheduling conflicts. This would eventually cause Carrey to pull out of the role. Having wanted only Carrey to play Dr. Evil Myers was unable to think of any suitable replacements and so he ended up of taking the role himself, creating a performance we all know and love today. Although it is probably a good thing that Myers ended up playing Dr. Evil you can't help but be intrigued to see what the usually high energy Carrey would have achieved with the role. Who knows it might have been even better.
