As Finn and Dameron escape from the First Order, they end up crash-landing on Jakku. Finn appears to wake up first and goes searching for Poe, but after seeing their Tie Fighter be swallowed up by the sand, he is forced to assume that the master fighter pilot has perished. Surprisingly, Dameron is then absent from the movie for a massive chunk of time, as Han Solo and Chewbacca are thrown into the mix. Poe suddenly returns to the film when Kylo Ren and the Order attack the planet of Takodana, flying an X-Wing alongside the resistance and helping to fend them off. These are strange creative choices for a number of reasons: a) it makes Dameron feel like easily the "lesser" of the three new protagonists because his screen time is comparatively little and b) his return is sudden but without much fanfare.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
