9. The Lift - Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Film

Having scored a good foundation with The First Avenger, Captain America won the battle of the sequels with The Winter Soldier - a heady blend of modern superhero flick and 1970s slow-burn spy movie. The fact that it was directed by the pair behind You, Me & Dupree was shocking, but the Russos have since proved to be absolutely the right talents to lead the MCU.

The film had world-changing ideas, a great villain (well, two actually) and offered a precursor for everything that would come along with Captain America: Civil War and beyond. It's likely to be up there at the very top of the MCU ladder for as long as it continues.

The Moment

The Winter Soldier isn't actually a movie of moments, but it does have some stand-out sequences - including The titular assassin "killing" Nick Fury and the final Triskellian battle. But it's a far smaller moment that tops them all.

When Cap becomes public enemy number one with SHIELD - just as he discovers that they're crooked - he gets into a lift with an increasing number of shifty SHIELD employees getting on with every stop. He quickly realises what's about to go down and that "before we start..." line is about the coolest ever uttered in the MCU.
