1. The Blade Runner Curse

It’s not quite the killer curse that plagued movies like The Exorcist and Poltergeist but if you were a corporation unfortunate enough to purchase a product placement segment in Blade Runner, chances are your brand took a bit of a hit in the ensuing years after the film’s release.

Airline company Pan Am had gone bust by the ‘90s and game developers Atari’s market domination suffered hugely in the aftermath of Blade Runner during the ‘80s, while former electronics market leader RCA and telecommunications giant of yore Bell Phones were both bought up by different companies.

Exceptions to the curse are Coca Cola and home appliance brand Cuisinart which are still going strong today. Having said that, in 1985 Coca Cola took a hit with the introduction of its disastrous New Coke and Cuisinart declared bankruptcy in 1989. Read into that what you will.
