18 WTF Moments From Oscars 2017
6. Hacksaw Ridge Beats La La Land For Best Film Editing
One of the biggest indicators for what will win Best Picture has historically been the Best Film Editing Oscar, though in recent years in particular the Academy has often opted for more adventurous choices, and this year was no exception.
The smart money here seemed to be on La La Land, but Hacksaw Ridge ended up taking the gong home for its superbly cut action sequences.
Whatever you think of the film or Gibson, it's hard to argue with the editing skill involved, and hopefully the editing branch will continue to reward more diverse fare rather than just ticking the same box they tick for Best Picture.
